You’re Not a Mess. You’re Human.

“You’re Not a Mess. You’re Human” - I reminded a woman leader during a recent 1:1 consultation.

From the outside, everything looked great—she enjoys her role, has a strong relationship with her leader, and is highly respected by her team.

As we continued to talk, a deeper challenge emerged.

She felt isolated—she didn’t know where to turn for mentorship.

She’s the kind of leader who shows up for everyone else. She listens. She supports. She leads with empathy. And because her team is navigating personal challenges, she hesitates to delegate—even when she’s running on empty. She doesn’t want to add to their load.

But who supports her?

We slowed the conversation down and explored what she can control:

1. Delegating without guilt.

Leadership isn’t about doing it all—it’s about empowering others and trusting they can rise to the occasion.

2. Asking for help.

Even the most capable leaders need support. That doesn’t make you weak—it makes you wise.

3. Balancing care for others with care for yourself.

When you burn out, your team doesn’t get your best. Leading well starts with leading yourself well.

4. Building a support system.

A mentor. A peer. A coach. A trusted personal board. The right mix of people can change how you show up and how you grow.

We also talked about how to appreciate the strengths in her current leader—while giving herself permission to seek mentorship elsewhere to fill the gaps.

By the end of our session, she exhaled. She sat up straighter. Her mindset shifted from overwhelmed to empowered.

Now what?

Here’s the truth: Leadership can feel lonely. But it doesn’t have to be.

You don’t need to have all the answers. You don’t need to carry it all. And you certainly don’t have to figure it out alone.

If you're feeling stretched thin or unsure of your next step, pause and ask yourself:

  1. What can I delegate to create space for what matters most?

  2. Where can I ask for support instead of going it alone?

  3. How can I make space to care for myself while I lead others?

  4. Who’s in my corner—and who do I need to invite in?

🌟 You don’t need to do it all. Start by taking one intentional step forward.
